Can hydrophilic coated catheters be beneficial for the public healthcare system in Brazil? - A cost-effectiveness analysis in patients with spinal cord injuries.

The authors of this article from Brazil report a full health economic evaluation of hydrophilic-coated catheters for intermittent use. Costs and health consequences were compared for people with spinal cord injury, using either hydrophilic-coated or uncoated intermittent catheters for a lifetime.

To simulate lifetime costs and health consequences, the authors adjusted a previously published Markov model to reflect the Brazilian public healthcare system.
